Abstract

From 2002 to 2011, Argentina's economy ran a consistent path of accelerated growth, interrupted only between late 2008 and mid-2009 due to the impacts of the international crisis, a strong crisis in the agroindustrial sector and very strong drought. The manufacturing sector was one of the leading sectors in this process and played a major role, particularly regarding the new generation of employment during the period. However, since the end of 2011 Argentina's industry entered a period of stagnation, which continues to the present, due to the resur-gence of the external constraint. In this context, the purposes of this study are to analyze the dynamics of industrial production and to examine the dynamics of job creation, both in the formal and informal sectors. For the first objective, we will use data sources alternative to the ones provided by Argentina’s main statistics agency (INDEC), while for the second aim we will create a new methodology.
