Resumen

The economic development of Latin American countries can be characterized as technologically dependent and specialized in productive activities that use capital and technological knowledge produced by industries from developed countries. There are few examples in these countries of companies or sectors that use scientific, technological and engineering knowledge locally produced. The paper presents the beginning of the paths of two companies producers of complex goods, located in Argentina (INVAP) and Brazil (Embraer), in order to reflect on the characteristics of the development of products with high added value in knowledge in countries where such productions is an exception rather than the rule. It is the study of the production of goods belonging to the nuclear, aeronautics and space industries, by companies of state capital until its privatization in one case. Specific processes and localized production of complex goods is researched from an analytical approach that tries to simultaneously recover the specificity of the cases studied, but also understand the broader dynamics in which technological processes are developed.
